Where Is the Color Orange?

During Circle Time, Pauline showed us a picture of a pumpkin. She said that pumpkins are all around during fall season!

Free Play

"I want the house! Please!" A said once she finished hanging up her backpack, so Pauline took it out of our big cabinet.

"E, let's play together, okay?" she asked E, but E wanted to stay in the reading corner.

"Eeeee... let's play!" she encouraged E, but she shook her head no. E started to read some books.

"Pauline..... E doesn't want to play..." A said sadly. Pauline said that E should use her words with A and say, "Wait, please."

"Wait, please," E told her. "I'm still reading."

"Okay.... I'm waiting....." A said, and she sat down beside her. She waited patiently as E continued to read books. From time to time, A would ask, "Can we play now?" and E would always respond with "Wait, please." A grew tired of waiting and decided to play in the house by herself.

Pauline started taking out some paint tubes. Both girls came over and told her that they wanted to paint. Pauline replied that they will use it for circle time. Hmmm... we wonder what we will do?

Circle Time

After cleaning up, we ate our snacks. We practiced singing our Halloween songs then went to sit down at the table.

Pauline gave us a picture of a pumpkin and asked us to color it

"It's orange!" A said.

"We need to color it orange," E said. The problem was, we didn't have any orange paint.

"We need to make our own color orange," Pauline said. "We will need to mix two colors to make orange. Can you help me find it?" she asked.

"YES!" we said enthusiastically.

"Let's try green and red?" E asked. Pauline put a tiny dots of green and red paint on our sheet of paper. Then we mixed both colors until we made....

"It's brown!" E observed.

"Look! I have brown, too!" A said. "I want to do blue and red," she suggested, and Pauline gave them some paint. They started mixing until....

"It's dark purple!" E said.

"Can I have more red, please?" A requested. She mixed the colors again and saw the color purple come out!

"I want to try blue and yellow," A said. Mixing together gave them green!

"Blue and green!" E said. It brought out blue- green- but still no orange!

"Maybe yellow and red!" E said. We mixed this again and-

"I have orange!" E said.

"Me I have not yet orange," A said. She kept mixing until she said, "Oh! I also have orange!" Now that we found out the colors that make orange, we can paint our pumpkin! We painted the stalk green, too.

Park Time

We went to our favorite park (Which you all probably know by now which one it is). We played tag and had Pauline do some cardio by challenging her, "You can't catch me!" We had her run all over the park and we laughed out loud when she caught us and tickled us.

We also played on the slide and K especially loved the climbing ropes. Oh, and A found a lot of acorns, so she and E happily collected them and put them in our plastic bag.

They also played a game of "Policemen" with the teachers. They pretended that they had to be locked up in jail by the policemen. the teachers tried to escape, but our Lighthouse policemen were fast enough to catch them and put them back into jail! Hehe!

Afterschool Session: Young Picassos (Art Class)

We saw John take pieces of a cardboard box and tape them together. He said it was a tree! He gave us some colored pencils and asked us to draw lines on the trunk and the branches, just as we pointed them out on the picture he showed us. After that, he put drops of paint in different colors on the tree. We put on our art smocks and mixed the colors with our paintbrushes! It was just like what we did during circle time, and we enjoyed mixing and creating new colors.

When we were done, we used glue and the leaves we picked from the park and decorated the tree with it. Now, it really does look like a tree- a fall season tree!

A class with John- John is not complete without some music and dancing. Whew! What a workout! We also had Debbie join our afterschool fun- she helped us paint and make our tree, too!

That's all for today. How about you? how was your day? Happy weekend, everyone!

Love,
